Curriculum

Based on the curriculum guide, the curriculum of General Studies is composed of three main aspects, subject knowledge, generic skills and values and attitudes. Among the six learning areas, ‘People and Environment’ and ‘National Identity and Chinese Culture’ are allocated in ‘General Studies - Geography’, adopting English as the medium of instruction. The course is composed of four main themes for Pr.(4-6) pupils : a) The Wonderful Earth, b) Hong Kong, c) Famous Countries, and d) View of the World. Besides, with the aim of deepening students’ map reading skills, levelled map reading teaching is incorporated in each level: continents and oceans in Pr.4, conventional signs in Pr.5, and longitudes and latitudes in Pr.6.

The vertical development of the course is divided into three learning stages.

Stage 1 (Pr.4): To enable students to learn about the fundamental geographical knowledge of continents and oceans; Hong Kong, the city where we live, as well as its neighbouring countries.

Stage 2 (Pr.5): To consolidate students’ knowledge of Hong Kong, and to enable them to learn about the geographic locations, climates, traditions and economic systems of other different countries.

Stage 3 (Pr.6): To enable students to learn basic map reading skills and to learn about the economy and industries of Hong Kong, and ultimately, the world.
